Thermistors (THMS)
|
 |
|
 |
| Thermistors are composed
of semiconductor materials that indicate absolute temperature by
their resistance. While related to RTD’s they are more limited
in overall operating range, and change resistance differently. Although
Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) units are available, most
thermistors have a negative temperature coefficient (NTC); that is,
their resistance decreases with increasing temperature. The change
in temperature can be as large as several percent per degree Celsius,
allowing the thermistor to detect minute shifts in temperature, which
could not easily be observed with an RTD or thermocouple. It is for
this reason that they are perfectly suited to measure cabin air temperature
as part of an Air Management System (AMS). |
